Google celebrates Samuel Okwaraji’s 55th posthumous birthday with doodle
The 55th posthumous birthday of former Nigerian footballer, Samuel Okwaraji, has been celebrated by Google with a doodle.
The tech giants marked the occasion with the specially themed display of a doodle celebrating the deceased football star who slumped and died at the age of 25 in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium on 12 August 1989.
The cause of his death was later discovered to be a congestive heart failure.
Doodles are changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.
Okwaraji who never played for any Nigerian club was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.

AceShowbiz - The development of the "Girls Trip" sequel has hit a road bump and stalled, according to the movie's breakout star Tiffany Haddish.
The actress landed her big break in the 2017 comedy, in which she starred alongside Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall as four lifelong friends who reunite for a wild vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The movie, penned by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, was a big box office hit, grossing $140 million (£107 million) worldwide, while it also made history as the first film written by an African-American woman to cross the $100 million (£76.4 million) mark.
The co-stars all expressed a desire to reunite for a follow-up in the wake of the project's commercial success, but during a recent appearance at the Natural Resources Defense Council's Night of Comedy in New York City, Tiffany suggested studio officials at Universal Pictures had put the proposed sequel on ice.
After one audience member shouted out a question about the anticipated release, Tiffany explained, "I wish there was (a sequel), I hope there is. I have been petitioning for it."
She went on to claim, "I've even written a script for it. Me and the girls (co-stars) punched it up and made it good. They (studio bosses) don't want it. We understood how much money could be made, and they don't want to pay it. So I doubt it."
However, a representative for Tiffany has since insisted she was just joking about gathering her co-stars to complete the script: "She was totally joking," her publicist tells the New York Post's Page Six.
"While she would love to make that movie one day, she has not written or participated in writing any script, so there was nothing for the studio to pass on. I can't stress enough that she was kidding."
Meanwhile, a studio spokesperson has played down any tension between Haddish and company officials.
"Tiffany is a singular talent, and Universal continues to have a dynamic and successful relationship with her," the representative states. "We look forward to collaborating with her on future projects."
The comedienne's comments emerge shortly after Latifah insisted the actresses were all still game for another "Girls Trip" - they just needed a finished screenplay.
"We are all in for 'Girls Trip 2'. We're just waiting for a script to be honest," she recently told People magazine.
"Tiffany called me like two weeks ago like, 'I know me, and you and Jada and Regina get in the room, we can write this script (sic).'"

Trump says US is sending immigrants to sanctuary cities: 'That was my sick idea
President Trump said late Saturday that the U.S. is already sending immigrants to sanctuary cities and that it was his "sick idea."
"Last month alone, 100,000 illegal immigrants arrived at our borders, placing a massive strain on communities and schools and hospitals and public resources like nobody's ever seen before," Trump said during a rally in Green Bay, Wis. "Now we're sending many of them to sanctuary cities. Thank you very much. They're not too happy about it. I'm proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea."
"What did they say? 'We want them,'" Trump continued. "I said we'll give em to you."
The comments came just a day after Trump said in a speech to the National Rifle Association that the U.S. was forced to release migrants and that it gave sanctuary cities "as many as they can handle," according to CNN.
The Washington Post first reported earlier this month that Trump administration officials had floated the idea to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The administration had reportedly unsuccessfully tried to persuade DHS to release thousands of detainees in small and midsize cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration authorities. www.googist.com for more info
The move was reportedly meant to put pressure on Democratic lawmakers. Trump said in a tweet on April 12 that his administration was actively considering the move.
"The USA has the absolute legal right to have apprehended illegal immigrants transferred to Sanctuary Cities," he wrote in a separate tweet on April 13. "We hereby demand that they be taken care of at the highest level, especially by the State of California, which is well known or its poor management & high taxes!"

Aisha plans to establish ‘Muhammadu Buhari University’
First Lady Aisha Buhari has expressed her plan to establish a private university to be known as “Muhammadu Buhari University”.
She disclosed this on Saturday during a town hall meeting in Yola organised by her in collaboration with concern indigenes of Adamawa.
Mrs Buhari, who did not however reveal when or where the university would be sited, explained that the university would be established in collaboration with partners from Sudan and Qatar.
Mrs. Buhari who lamented the challenges facing education and various sectors in the state, called for active support of the state indigenes in complementing government efforts.
“I cannot conclude without suggesting how we can complement the efforts of government in achieving some of its developmental goals.
“On this note, I would like to advocate for the establishment of Adamawa Development Trust Fund through which prioritized developmental projects can be financed and implemented,” she said.
Fati Ballah also called for reconciliation and forgiveness among the people of the state and the setting up of a committee to come up with a blueprint for the development of the state.
Sadiq Daware, who spoke on agriculture at the meeting, noted that 80 per cent of the state land was arable and suitable for farming.
Mr Daware added that with River Benue which passes through the state, the state has the potential for massive irrigation and all year round farming programmes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other speakers at the meeting include Prof. Shehu Iya of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, who spoke on education; Prof. Auwal Abubakar of Federal Medical Centre, Yola, who spoke on health; and Mrs Helen Mathias who spoke on women and youth.
Others are Umar Abubakar who spoke on security; Gen. Buba Marwa on drugs; Sen. Silas Zwingina on Good Governance, and Dr Umar Bindir who spoke on Poverty.
