PDP ask Nigerians to remain calm after Election defeat

Peoples Democratic Party says it is committed to democracy and would explore other means to resolve issues about the presidential election result announce by the INEC Chairman.

Osita Chidoka, who served as an agent of the PDP at the collation centre, notes that the PDP believes the legal process in Nigeria is one of the ways to resolve issues The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to remain peaceful in response to INEC’s declaration which named President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC as the winner of the presidential election.

The former aviation minister, Osita Chidoka, who served as an agent of the PDP at the collation centre in Abuja, noted that his party was committed to democracy and would explore lawful means to resolve issues, Daily Trust reports. “The PDP remains a very lawful party, we believe in the law, we believe in the constitution of Nigeria, we are committed to democracy. But we have a good message for Nigerians, we want them to remain peaceful, we will explore all our options, including the belief that the legal process in Nigeria is one of the way to resolve issues,” Chidoka said after the final announcement by INEC was made.

The former minister had earlier said there was a discrepancy of more than 1,600, 000 voters in terms of registered voters. He said the cancelled votes affected more than 2 million voters. Chidoka claimed there were 5.1 million votes that cannot be accounted for and thus called for a rerun.

However, the INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, said the assertion that 5.1 million voters could not vote because of card readers is not true. He also said when card readers are deliberately circumvented, votes will be cancelled.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the result of the Kwara central senatorial district in the Saturday, February 23, election in Kwara state. The party's agent for the district, Isiaka Magaji, claimed that there was massive rigging, especially in Ilorin west area of the local government, Tribune reports. The party's agent refused to append his signature on the result presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Magaji, who spoke when representatives of political parties were called out to append their signatures on the final result, also presented a protest letter to the returning officer for the election, Prof. Olawale Olatubosun. Olatunbosun, however, refused to receive the letter, saying he lacked the jurisdicton to do so. Magaji, while airing his grievances, said: “The report that I got from our agents in the four local government areas that made up Kwara central senatorial district said there was massive electoral fraud in some polling units, especially in Ilorin West local government area."

Googist.com earlier reported that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lost his bid for reelection into the Senate from Kwara Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
