The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) releases the list of 67 candidates for the governorship election in Nigeria - The list contain the candidates and the political parties through which they seek the mandates of the citizens - The names of the candidate of APC for Imo state is missing from the list The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, November 9, released the names of 67 governorship candidates of the various political parties battling for victory at the 2019 general election. However, the names of Hope Uzodinma and Uche Nwosu were reportedly missing from the released list of the governorship candidates for the 2019 general election.
Vanguard reports that INEC released 67 names including that of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha, in Imo state. Nwosu, son-in-law to the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, and Senator Uzodinma have been laying claims to the candidacy. Okorocha has, however insisted that Nwosu is the authentic winner of the controversial APC primary election in the state.
In a statement circulated to journalists on Thursday, November 8, by his chief press secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor alleged that Senator Uzodinma was burdened by at least two criminal cases, besides standing on a wealth of unknown means, including issuance of dud cheques. "Chief Uzodinma should face his two most recent criminal charges over the issuance of dud cheque and non-declaration of assets. We won’t talk about other similar cases.
“He has never attended any APC meeting either in his ward or in his local government, Oru-East, or at the state level. “That is why no APC member in the state was excited when the party’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, announced him as his preferred governorship candidate of the party in the state,” he said.
