PDP rejects Kwara central result as Saraki loses to APC senatorial candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the result of the Kwara central senatorial district in the Saturday, February 23, election in Kwara state. The party's agent for the district, Isiaka Magaji, claimed that there was massive rigging, especially in Ilorin west area of the local government, Tribune reports. The party's agent refused to append his signature on the result presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Magaji, who spoke when representatives of political parties were called out to append their signatures on the final result, also presented a protest letter to the returning officer for the election, Prof. Olawale Olatubosun. Olatunbosun, however, refused to receive the letter, saying he lacked the jurisdicton to do so. Magaji, while airing his grievances, said: “The report that I got from our agents in the four local government areas that made up Kwara central senatorial district said there was massive electoral fraud in some polling units, especially in Ilorin West local government area."
Googist.com earlier reported that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lost his bid for reelection into the Senate from Kwara Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Saraki lost to Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s February 23 senatorial election. Oloriegbe polled a total of 123, 808 votes to defeat the Senate president who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local governments of Kwara central senatorial district.
